  1. Listen without interrupting
  2. Paraphrase what you heard Start with phrases like:
    • “So what I’m hearing is…”
    • “It sounds like you’re feeling…”
    • “You mean that…”
  3. Name the emotion People don’t just want facts reflected — they want feelings reflected.
    • “That sounds really frustrating.”
    • “It seems like you felt ignored.”
    • “You’re probably disappointed about that.”
  4. Check if you got it right End with a soft question:
    • “Did I get that right?”
    • “Is that what you mean?”
    • “Am I understanding you correctly?”
